Traditionally, salvia leaves were formed into a chewable quid which delivers a potent and lasting trip but its taste is not for the faint hearted. On the other hand, smoking salvia leaves straight isn’t very strong. That’s where the concentrates come in, they are salvia standardized extracts. Mostly, extracts are named after their potency, a 15x extract means that 15g of leaves were used to produce 1g of extract. Since the smoke of salvia is tough on the throat and lungs, it is more efficient and comfortable to use extracts. Salvinorin A is rapidly metabolized in the body, which implies that the full dose is ingested as quickly as possible. That’s why it is much easier to reach a full breakthrough with an extract, rather than with pure leaf or smoke.
There are many different ways or methods of making salvia extracts, below is a very effective method of producing Standardized Salvia Extract. Before you start extracting your salvia, you will need dried leaves of Salvia Divinorum, a blender, saucepan, small narrow glass, pipette, and chemicals like naphtha and acetone.
Step 1:
Take the dried leaves of salvia in a container and blend them into small amounts. The first result will not be good but after repeating the process 2 to 3 times, you will be able to achieve the desired result in the form of a paste.
Step 2:
Extract the chemicals present in the leaves. Salvinorin-A is a chemical present in the leaves of Salvia Divinorum. In order to extract it, you need to mix the crushed leaves with equal amounts of solvent to cover the entire portion of the paste.
Step 3:
Stir the mixture constantly for 5 to 10 minutes and allow it to settle for 6 to 8 hours. During this time period, almost all of Salvinorin –A dissolves in the solvent. Pour out the solution in a source pan leaving the solid material in the glass.
Step 4:
Evaporate the mixture using a hot apparatus or hair dryer, to dry the leaves, place them in the glass baking dish and put them in the oven at 95-100°C, turning and scooping them every couple of hours. Let the leaves remain in the oven until they are completely dry, before taking them out.
Step 5:
Dissolve the mixture in naphtha. This helps in getting rid of the black color of the mixture leaving behind only Salvinorin-A.
Step 6:
Fortification of extract – Mix Salvinorin-A with equal amounts of solvent. This helps you to get high quality salvia extract. Take salvia dried leaves of equal amount and put in a container then pour the mixture from the pan to it.
Remove the amount of leaf you want to use to eventually put the concentrate back on. For a 5x concentrate 20g, for a 10x concentrate 10g, for a 20x concentrate 5g and so on.
Note: 5x = 18mg per gram, 10x = 36mg per gram, 20x = 72mg per gram and so on and Evaporate all the solvent to get to get your finished product.
In order to get the different strong versions of salvia extract, then you will need to measure different quantities of Salvia Divinorum dried leaves that you will condense to 1 gram. You need to remember however, the higher the multiplication power in terms of the weight of the dried leaves, the stronger the extract.
When you follow these steps, you will be in a position to make your own salvia extract. However, if you are not sure of the process, purchasing the product from legitimate vendors in the market is advised.
